Goshen softball philosophy is ‘Why not us?’

Someone has to win the AHSAA 2A State Softball Tournament, and Goshen head coach Amy Warrick feels her team can.

“If anyone is going to win it, why not us?,” Warrick asked Tuesday afternoon. “This team is not getting caught up in the celebration of going to state anymore. We are about doing something when we get there. It has to be somebody, so why not us?”

Goshen qualified for the state tournament by defeating Horseshoe Bend 4-0 in the final elimination game of the Regional Tournament last weekend in Troy.

The Lady Eagles feel the moment is theirs for the taking.

“We feel like we have put in the work to be here,” Warrick said. “We have prepared ourselves with a bunch of tournaments, and Lord knows we have been in about 10 one-run ball games. We have made errors, but we have gotten better from it. Our defense is better, and if we can keep the bats going, we definitely have a shot.”

Goshen opens the Alabama High School State Softball Tournament at 9 a.m. Friday morning. The Lady Eagles will meet Colbert Heights in the first game at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.
