Ashford scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and hung on late to stun the No. 1-ranked Charles Henderson Trojans 5-4 Tuesday night in Ashford.

The Yellow Jackets used five singles, and a Trojan error to plate all the runs they needed.

Ashford’s James Lisenby singled to lead off the fifth, and the next batter, Marcus Benton, reached on an error on Charles Henderson first baseman Jason Fleming.

Parker Moman singled to center to score the Yellow Jacket’s first two runs of the game, digging Ashford out of an early 1-0 hole.

Andrew Rice and Tanner Hatcher would also pick up RBI singles in the inning.

Charles Henderson, down 5-1, went back to work at the plate in the fifth inning.

Austin Ingram led off with a double, and later scored on a single to left off the bat of Cole Wilson.

The Trojans picked up two more runs in the top of the sixth. Chase Smartt sent a double to deep left center, scoring Hunter Baggett and John Johnson.

Following Smartt’s double, Ingram reached on n infield single and Xavius Burden was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

However, Ashford would escape the jam with a pair of swinging strikeouts.

Charles Henderson would go quietly in the seventh to end the game, and give Ashford a chance at the area title.

The same two teams will meet on Thursday at Frazier Field, with the winner laying claim to the area championship and a first-round home playoff series.

Charles Henderson will have to win both ends of a doubleheader to take the championship.

First pitch for the important series is for 4:30 P.m. at Frazier Field in Troy.
