Following a disappointing loss to Pulaski Academy on Tuesday, Charles Henderson rebounded with over Bob Jones and Pinson Valley on Wednesday at the Gulf Coast Classic.
The Trojans used a five-run sixth inning to rally back for a 6-3 win over Bob Jones.
Trailing 3-1 entering the sixth, the Trojans loaded the bases with a double from Hunter Baggett and walks from John Johson and Chase Smartt.
Austin Ingram brought home the first run with a fly. Following an infield single by Xavius Burden, the bottom of the Charles Henderson lineup ripped off four straight RBI at bats.
Nick Lewis tied the game with a fly to left, and the Trojans grabbed the lead for good with back-to-back-to-back RBI singles from Cole Wilson, Jason Fleming and Reilly Fox.
John Michael Stephens, who went the distance for Charles Henderson, sent Bob Jones down in order to end the game and seal the Trojan win.
Stephens got the win on the mound by throwing all seven innings. He scattered five hits and didn’t give up a hit in the final three innings. Stephens stuck out four.
It was a team effort the Trojans at the plate with Smartt, Ingram, Lewis, Wilson, Fleming and Fox each picking up one RBI.
In the second game of the day, Charles Henderson used a big fourth inning to down Pinson Valley 7-3.
The Trojans trailed the Indians 2-0 entering the fourth, but picked up three straight hits to open the frame and tie the game up. Smartt doubled to left to lead off the inning, and Ingram and Burden notched consecutive singles to even the score at 2.
Later in the inning, Fleming doubled to deep left center to give Charles Henderson the lead for good, scoring Burden and Lewis.
Fox singled in Wilson later in the inning, and Hunter Baggett brought home Fox with an RBI double.
Burden got the win by throwing six innings of six-hit baseball and striking out seven.
Ingram worked one inning on the hill and picked up the save.
