Seven area students will enjoy an insiders look at public administration as they participate in the Troy Mayor for A Day program on Tuesday.

The students are winners of the 13th annual Mayor for a Day essay contest. More than 80 essays were entered from area students, and the top seven authors were chosen for the honor.

Winners include:

• Mayor: Kaylee Ferraro, Pike Liberal Arts School

• City Council District 1: Caroline Bish, Pike Liberal Arts School

• City Council District 2: Cody Hollis, Pike Liberal Arts School

• City Council District 3: Jackson Thomas, Pike Liberal Arts School

• City Council District 4: Camille Cameron, Charles Henderson Middle School

• City Council District 5: Hayden Stephens, Charles Henderson Middle School

• City Clerk: Madison Shelton, Charles Henderson Middle School.

“Mayor for a Day is my favorite council meeting of the year,” said Troy Mayor Jason Reeves. “Interacting with the students and getting their fresh perspective on municipal government is invaluable to city leaders.”

The winning students will spend the day Feb. 11 touring various city departments, participating in a live radio broadcast and lunching with Reeves and city council members. The students also will meet in City Hall to discuss a resolution of their own, which they will present at the regularly scheduled council meeting.
