Charles Henderson head coach Mike Dean makes no bones about. He is a perfectionist, and won’t be satisfied until his Trojans play mistake-free football for multiple weeks in a row.

Despite a perfect 4-0 record, Charles Henderson has yet to play a “complete ball game” in Dean’s eyes. At different points throughout the season, Dean has seen his team bust coverages, miss tackles and make mistakes the he feels they shouldn’t make.

“Look at last Friday, yea we won the ball game, but we made mistakes that we can’t do if we want to win championships,” Dean said. “We lost outside contain on the quarterback a couple of times and they got big gains. If we do what we have been taught, those gains don’t happen. You make those mistakes in the playoffs, and you wind up getting beat.”
The Trojans, like the majority of teams in the Alabama High School Athletic Association, will step out of region this week. Charles Henderson will make the short trip to Greenville to battle the 5A Tigers.

Greenville has struggled to a 2-2 record early in 2013, but Dean said that Tigers are as “athletic as any team we will see all year.”

“They have some great players,” Dean said. “We have to go in there with a sense of urgency. We have to get on them early and get them doubting themselves and get them to drop their heads. We can’t let a team stick around, because those athletes will then get some bounce in their step and start believing they can win it. You can’t waste time, turn the ball over and make dumb mistakes against this bunch, or they will make you pay.”

Charles Henderson and Greenville will meet for the sixty-second time Friday night. The Trojans lead the all-time series 32-27-1, and won last year’s meeting 14-13 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Troy.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Greenville.
