Mr. John Waylon Shackelford, age 79, died suddenly Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at his home on County Road 3319, Troy, AL. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2013 at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Mark Stephens officiating. Skeen Funeral Home of Brundidge directing. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Skeen Funeral Home in Brundidge. He was born July 17, 1934 in Andalusia, AL. son of the late Samuel Shackelford and April Wright Shackelford. Mr. Shackelford proudly served our country in the U.S Marine Corps and he later was as a sheet metal worker at Ft. Rucker for 34 years. He was a member of the Ma-Chis Creek Indian Tribe where he served as Elder and Council Member. He was also a 33rd degree Mason in the Claybank Lodge. He is survived by his wife: Jeretha D. Shackelford, Troy, AL; son: Greg Shackelford, and daughter: Sherry Shackelford, both of Brundidge, AL; eleven grandchildren, one great grandson, brother: Wayne Shackelford, Dothan, AL; two sisters: Betty Gross, Kingston Springs, TN; and Ann Sandborn, Sunfield, MI; and five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Rick Shackelford. Serving as pallbearers will be Marvin Sneed, Jonathan Sneed, Nathan Sneed, Joshua Sneed, Moses Davenport, Johnny Wright, Phillip Barbaree and James Wright.
