Chris Huner’s Dixie Minor Rookies team finished a couple of wins short of a District Tournament Championship, but still take part in the State Tournament in July.

Troy fell to Enterprise National 7-3 on Wednesday evening, and with the loss finished runner-up in the tournament.

Troy and Enterprise went to the final inning all tied at 3, but Enterprise was able to plate four runs in the top of the sixth to edge away late.

“I believe we played really well,” said Huner. “It was a good ball game between two pretty good team. They just got a couple of timely hits late, and we didn’t.”

With the win, the Dixie Minor Rookies advance to the State Tournament in Muscle Shoals July 5-11.

All the rookie division tournaments, AA, AAA and O-Zone will be held in The Shoals.

“I’m excited to be going to the state tournament, and the kids are as well,” Huner said. “I think we will represent Troy well up in Muscle Shoals.”

Huner said that his team will fine tune its defense over the next few days before heading to northwest Alabama next week.

“We are going to work on throwing ahead of the runner and keeping the force out in play at all times,” Huner said. “We are hitting the ball well, but we need to limit the number of throws we make. Holding guys to singles will be big at the state tournament, because the runners take a few more chances looking to get on and score.”
