Police catch wayward goat

Police say it wasn’t three Billy goats gruff – just one wandering boar goat – that prompted a trio of reports from Troy residents within a 24-hour span.

The first incident occurred Monday afternoon on Henderson Highway near Thundering Springs Road, when a resident called because a goat had gotten into a horse pen and was harassing the horse. Animal control officers separated the animals, and the goat was caught and retrieved by another individual.

Around 10 p.m. Monday a resident on Chase Lane called dispatchers and said a goat had wandered into his backyard and was attempting to charge him. The officer was unable to capture the goat.

By Tuesday afternoon, police had received a third call about a wayward goat. Animal control officers captured the goat, described as a red-haired boar goat, in Hunter’s Mountain Estates. No one was injured in any of the instances.

While the department routinely answers a variety of animal control calls, the goat calls were unusual. “This is the first time I can remember two goat calls in the same day,” said Lt. Bryan Weed, spokesperson for the department.
