Base runners were at a premium Saturday afternoon at Frazier Field for the Charles Henderson Trojans and Dothan Tigers.

Charles Henderson picked up the slim 1-0 win, after getting some helpful errors from the Dothan infielders, as well as stellar pitching from Brantley LeCroy and Austin Ingram.

The LeCroy-Ingram tandem combined for a two-hit shutout, and struck out 7 Dothan Batters.

“Brantley competed his tail off out there today,” said Charles Henderson head coach Derek Irons. “He had a lot of adversity last season with injury, and he is a senior this season. He did a whale of job, and if not for our infield kicking it around a littler in the sixth, he probably goes the whole way.”

Dothan was able to load the bases in the sixth inning due to a walk and two errors. Irons went to the bullpen, and summoned Ingram to the hill. Ingram promptly got a ground ball double play to end the inning, and the Dothan scoring threat.

Ingram would strike out the side in the seventh to seal the Charles Henderson win on a very chilly afternoon.

“All our pitchers did well today,” said Irons. “I told our guys earlier today that we had to be mentally tough. We don’t live in Minnesota, so we don’t have to do this 30 times a year, we have to do it a couple. I didn’t hear any of our guys complaining about the cold, and that says a lot.”

Earlier the day, Charles Henderson knocked off Oak Mountain High School 9-5.

The Trojans (8-1) will take part in the FCA Jason Armstrong Memorial Baseball Classic in Montgomery this week. Charles Henderson will play on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at Patterson Field, as well as Riverwalk Stadium.
