A drunk driver led Troy Police on a chase that ended on the quad of the Troy University campus early Sunday morning.

Troy Police arrested a man Sunday morning after he attempted to elude police and destroyed property on the Troy University campus.

Robert Carlton, 21, of Troy, was arrested for driving under the influence and was cited for attempting to elude police, according to Troy Police Sgt. Benny Scarbrough.

Police tried to initiate a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 231 shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday. Carlton did not stop, and instead led police on a chase down George Wallace Drive and then on University Avenue.

Carlton drove his vehicle around roadblock signs in place due to construction and then jumped the curb onto the University quad, tearing up grass and finally smashing into a brick barrier surrounding a large fountain. Concrete blocks on top of the brick were knocked off.

At that time, Carlton got out of his vehicle and fled on foot. Officers apprehended Carlton not far from the crash site.

No further information was available about the incident Monday.
