Troy High School classes hold joint reunion

On Oct. 5, classes from Troy High School were welcomed to Jewell Griffin’s “Golden Pond” for a 15th-year class reunion.

The Pig Cafe and Catering of Troy catered the dinner of catfish filets, shrimp, chicken fingers, cole slaw, fries, baked beans, hush puppies, banana pudding and iced tea.

The class was saddened by the deaths of 22 members since last year’s reunion. From the class of 1944, Rupert Green, Beulah Gibson Blanton, Robert Walters and Dan Harris, Jr. From the Class of 1945, A.D. Ryals, Jr. From the Class of 1946, Jean Averitt, Wilma Lassiter Mullis, Donald Fitzgerald, and Annie Pearl Lunsford Burks. From the Class of 1947, James Mullis, Joe Frank Walters, Minnie Catherine McMoy Davis and Virginia Law Bragg. From the Class of 1948, Charles Bennett, Carlton Haisten and Barbara Middlebrooks Morrison. From the Class of 1949, James Robert Hollis. From the Class of 1950, Jean Motes Allen and Malcolm Griffin. From the Class of 1951, Josh Faircloth, Betty Folmar Nations and Bailey Talbot.

Attending from the Class of 1943 was Clara Lake Sizemore from Pace, Florida.

Attending from the Class of 1944 were Cletus and Winnie Perkins from Ozark, Margaret Law Whitehurst and her son William Miller from Montgomery, Lillian Jones Derrick and her daughter Mary Jan Derrick of Orlando.

Attending from the 1945 Class were Fannie Green Clark from Eufaula and her sisters Betty Green Riley of Destin, Florida and Alice Green Suiter, Edna Haltiwanger Pond and her guests Fran Walker and Deanna Winkel from Birmingham, Nell Winslett Bassett and Fay Gibson Davis from Troy.

Attending from the Class of 1946 were Sarah Rhodes Stinson and her guest Bobby Philips from Montgomery, Ellen Miller Roling and her son Keith, Bettie Lee King, Jewell Veasey Griffin, Jacqueline Senn Harris, William and Nell Fannin, William and Hilda Thomas, Calvin and Etha Tillery Head and their daughter Rebecca Robinett, all of Troy, and Johnny and Virginia Borland Ward from Tallahassee, Florida.

Attending from the Class of 1947 were Harry Anderson, Huey Bragg and his daughter Tami from Fitzpatrick, Blanche Ables and her daughter Vicki Fletcher of Pace, Florida, Ellis Bush and Juanita Holmes Bush, Virginia Bush, Bob and Joanne Herndon Nunnelee, Donal and Sara Lee Dunbar.

Attending from the Class of 1948 were Vaughn Elder of Parker, Arizona, Raymond and Dorothe Hill from Lakeland, Florida, May Vernon Jones from Metarie, Louisiana, Lelious Ward from Hope Hull, Mary Ann Knight Gilchrist and Charles Dougles Griffin, all of Troy.

Attending from the Class of 1949 were Dewey and Scottie Veal of Montgomery and Jerry and Betty Nichols Spann of Troy.

Attending from the Class of 1950 are Isaac Boutwell of Eastview, Kentucky, Beverly Jeffcoat from Stone Mountain, Georgia, Russell Tatum of Montgomery and Alice Knight Hayes of Troy.

Attending from the Class of 1951 were Spinks and Sallie Jones Brooks of Killen, Doug and Sally Kelley Furlow of Montgomery, Haley Grant of Tuscaloosa, and Homer and Mary Lou Barron Anderson of Troy.

Attending from the Class of 1955 were Windley Wade and Joyce Tatom.

Visitors were Lacey and Margaret Powell of Mobile and Penny Mullis Dees of Troy.

Sixteen members attended breakfast Saturday morning at the Pig Cafe. They were Dewey and Scottie Veal, Isaac Boutwell, Lelious Ward, Johnny and Virginia Ward, Homer and Mary Lou Anderson, Nell Bassett, Mary Gene Nieves, Veryl an Gwen Lassiter, Jewell Griffin, Ellis and Juanita Bush and Jacqueline Harris.
