Mr. Robert Allen “Bobby” Cates age 70 of Troy died Friday, September 21, 2012 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at 1:00 pm from the First United Methodist Church in Troy with Reverend David McVay officiating, Dillard Funeral Home of Troy Directing. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. He is survived by his wife Betty Lee Cates of Troy, 2 daughers Amy Cates (Craig) Lyle of Alabaster, Mary Anne Cates (David) Templeton of Troy, a son Robert Allen Cates Jr. of Troy, his father Walter Franklin Cates and his wifeCorine Cates, his grandchildren Anna Chalker Lyle, Maura Piper Lyle, Sally Whitfield Lyle, Walter Mitchell Lyle, Robert Allen Cates III, Bennett Clark Templeton and Carter Davis Templeton, a sister Barbara Cates (Doug) Meeks and 4 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Sara Frances Chalker Cates. The family requests memorials be made to The American Diabetes Association.

Mr. Cates’s sales career included employment with Kelly Chrysler Plymouth in Marietta, Georgia, and he owned and operated Crescent Chevrolet in Forsyth, Georgia. He later owned and operated his aircraft sales business, Bobby Cates & Associates, and was employed by David Adams Realty.

An avid golfer and self-proclaimed sharp shooter, Mr. Cates was known for his keen wit, colorful storytelling, and love for family and friends.
