Horace Pippin

Mr. Horace Pippin, age 94, of Troy, died Monday morning, July 30, 2012, at his home following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­11:00 A. M. Thursday, August 2, 2012, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Thomas Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Thursday at the funeral home from 10:00 A. M. until service time.

Mr. Pippin was born September 30, 1917 in Geneva County to the late Johnson Henry Pippin and Elizabeth Glisson Pippin.  He served in the United States Army during World War II and later worked in the shipyards in Brunswick, Georgia.  Mr. Pippin moved back to Alabama and attended George Wallace College where he learned brick masonry.  He worked as a brick mason until his retirement.  He was an avid golfer and enjoyed dancing, fishing, watching Atlanta Braves baseball and Alabama football. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dovie Lee Gulledge Pippin; one grandson, Charles Benton; a special friend, Mrs. Mary Huner Johnson; and several sisters and brothers.

Survivors include four daughters and one son-in-law, Elizabeth and Wayne Benton of Aiea, Hawaii, Retha Baker of Sevierville, Tennessee, Sylvia Bogner of Troy, and Freida Pinckard of Troy;  one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Denise Pippin of Dothan;  one sister, Bonnie Varndoe of Eagle Lake, Florida;  one brother,  Roy Pippin of Tampa, Florida;

eleven grandchildren, Lisa Ecklund, Monica Foote, Tim Baker, Scott Baker, Reggie Snell, Melony Snell, Nancy Hubbard, Jason Pippin, Taylor Pippin, Stewart Pinckard, and Eady Pinckard; eleven great grandchildren, Jessica Hunter, Brittany Wilson, Hannah Baker, Karmon Shellabarger, Kristen Hall, Katrina Foote, Haley Vance, Hayden Hubbard, Abigail Pippin, Alex Pippin, and Cheyenne Foote;  ten great-great grandchildren, Brayden Vance, Jayden Ledbetter, Shelby Ledbetter, Kendalyn Ledbetter, Sammy Foote, Mason Foote, Layten Foote, A.
