Troy, conference financials

Published 2:52 pm Wednesday, December 28, 2011

I went through countless websites and sources to pull as much financial info as I could dating back several years from all FBS schools.

While Troy does rank at the bottom of all the lists I found, they are not rock bottom.

I sorted the numbers and listed the major categories below.

2010-11 Sun Belt

In comparison, here are the numbers for other area schools.

In comparing the numbers to other conferences, the Sun Belt ranks dead last in revenue.

Coaching salaries was another area I researched. Not all institutions release their salaries because they are private (ex. BYU, Stanford, Vanderbilt) but of the ones I found Troy ranked in the bottom third of NCAA in AVERAGE total coaching salaries from 2006-11. REMEMBER these are averages over a six year span.

Just for kicks, I compiled this season’s highest paid coaches from each conference. Brian Kelly would probably be tops for Independent coaches but Notre Dame is a private institution.

It is worth noting that of the names on that list Jimbo Fisher and Charlie Strong have not won conference titles as a head coach. Chip Kelly and Greg McMackin have not yet won bowl games. And of the names on that list six have fewer bowl victories than…. yep, Larry Blakeney. Want another chart? You got it. NOTE: I counted if the coach had ever won a conference title not just at his current school. I also counted co-championships like Middle Tennessee State’s in 2006 when they split with Troy.

I guess the point of all this is to give everyone an idea of where the Sun Belt, Troy and Larry Blakeney stand in the grand scheme of things. There are thousands of ways to break these numbers down so if you would like to see something else let me know via comment at the bottom of this page.
