Fleming awarded AISA scholarship

Pike Liberal Arts senior Amy Fleming was awarded he AISA Cheerleading Scholarship at the AISA All-Star football banquet in Prattville last Thursday.

The scholarship is awarded each year to a cheerleader showing outstanding performance in the classroom as well as in the community.

“I was excited,” Fleming said. “I really didn’t know what to expect. It was surprising.”

Fleming was named to the AISA East All-Star cheerleading squad and was selected for the scholarship by the AISA athletic committee.

Each applicant was required to submit an essay and meet other academic and community service requirements.

Fleming maintains a high GPA at Pike Liberal Arts and is the senior class vice president, SGA president as well as vice president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and captain of the Patriots cheerleading squad.

While Fleming is undecided on which college she will be attending in the spring, her relationship with the other all-stars will be welcomed her freshman year.

“We talked on the trip about who is going where,” Fleming said. “Some are going to Alabama, some to Auburn and Troy so I’ll know people wherever I go.”

Fleming said her choice was between Alabama and Troy and the scholarship will help in her quest for a college degree.
