Rochelle McKenney has been named the new principal of Pike County Elementary, bringing 20 years of education experience and a deep commitment to the community to the role.
McKenney has served as the assistant principal of Pike County Elementary School (PCES) for the past four years and describes PCES as home, a place where she has always meant to be.
A native of Andalusia, and graduate of Troy University, McKenney holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education (K-6), a master’s in special education (K-6) and an instructional leadership degree from the University of West Alabama.
Her focus as principal is clear: strengthen academics and foster a strong, supportive school family.
“Our goal is to become a Blue Ribbon School,” she explains. “Our students are already excelling. We will continue to encourage and motivate them while celebrating their success.”
McKenney also emphasizes the importance of a positive school culture. “We are a family here,” she explains. “Mr. Nettles and I are dedicated to boosting morale and appreciating our staff. Small, daily acts of support build a strong team.”
She is also continuing the school’s beautification project, begun by Rodney Drish, former principal of Pike County Elementary School. “We have made improvements to the outside of campus and are now focusing on making the inside just as welcoming.”
McKenney’s first official day under this new title, July 1, ended with a meaningful moment, in which she describes as a blessing from God.
“As I walked to my car yesterday, I saw a rainbow stretching across the campus. It felt like God’s promise to bless this school,” recalled McKenney.
McKenney looks to lead with accountability.
“The buck stops with me,” she continued, “but this isn’t a ‘me’ thing—it’s a ‘we’ thing. We are stronger together.”
