The Troy Trojans baseball team had a big weekend, landing a pair of All-Conference transfer portal commitments.
Troy earned commitments from former Stony Brook utility Nico Azpilcueta and former Flagler pitcher Ben Stubbs. Azpilcueta is a Sherman Oaks, Calif., native who was a star player at Crespi High School in California before starting his college career at Saint Marys. He transferred to Ohlone College in 2024 and was a First-Team JUCO All-American and ABCA/Rawlings Pacific Association All-American. He hit 12 homers and boasted a .342 batting average as a first baseman, third baseman and designated hitter.
Azpilcueta transferred to Stony Brook in 2025 and earned First-Team All-CAA honors as a utility. His lone season at Stony Brook was one of the best offensive seasons in school history as he went .320 at the plate with 14 doubles, one triple, 20 homers, 61 RBIs and 49 runs. His home runs were second in school history and his RBIs were third. He will come to Troy with one year of eligibility remaining.
Stubbs is a left-handed pitcher that committed to Troy over offers from other schools like Florida, North Carolina State and Kansas. He’s a Macon, Ga., native who played high school baseball at Tattnall Square Academy. He held an 11-1 record as a senior with 125 strikeouts, breaking the school record for strikeouts in a season. He also earned All-State and Private School Pitcher of the Year honors.
As a freshman at Flagler in 2023, Stubbs made nine appearances and struck out 11 batters in eight and 2/3 innings pitched. As a sophomore, he went 4-2 on the mound, striking out 55 batters and boasting a 2.68 ERA in 50 and 1/3 innings pitched. This past season, Stubbs earned All-Conference honors as he went 6-1 on the mound with a 3.44 ERA with 87 strikeouts in 70 and 2/3 innings pitched. He will come to Troy with one year of eligibility remaining.
Troy also recently earned a commitment from Michigan State transfer pitcher Tate Farquhar. Farquhar is a 6-foot Highland, Mich., native that was an All-State pitcher at Lakeland High School. He set his high school’s record for most wins in a season. He was rated as the No. 5 right-handed pitcher in Michigan coming out of high school.
He started his college career at Michigan State but missed his first two seasons due to injury.
In 2025, he held a 3-3 record on the mound, with a 6.65 ERA in 18 appearances. He also struck out 34 batters on the season. He’ll come to Troy with two years of eligibility remaining.
Troy also landed a commitment from Illinois-Chicago (UIC) pitcher Tommy Egan, who earned All-Conference honors this past season. Egan is a Chicago, Ill., native that was a star baseball and football player at Mt. Carmel High School. He started his college career at Iowa Western Community College, holding a 3.71 ERA with 69 strikeouts.
Eggan transferred to Houston in 2023 and made six appearances on the mound. He transferred to UIC this past season and held a 4.76 ERA in 12 appearances. He also earned a 6-2 record and struck out 43 batters in 51 innings pitched as he earned All-Conference honorable mention.
Last week, Troy also earned a commitment from Kentucky pitcher Hayden Smith. Smith is a Nicholasville, Ky., native that earned All-State honors at West Jessamine High School. He was also ranked as the No. 5 overall prospect from Kentucky by Perfect Game.
