Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library has had a full calendar this summer with their summer reading program “Color Our World.”
Garneshia Lampley, Children and Teen Services Coordinator of Tupper Lightfoot shared the progress of the program so far.
“We have a lot of registrants, but not as much participation,” said Lampley. “We do have readers, so we have kids who are actively reading and logging their reading still.”
Even though numbers have been low this summer, Lampley shared that participating kids are still excited to return each week.
“We have had some days where there have been very few children, and even with one child they still wanted to stay,” she said. “So that’s exciting, ‘Hey it’s just going to be me, but I’m going to stay anyway.’”
Of the weekly community programs, the biggest turnout has been at Lew-E’s Comedy Circus on Friday, June 20 where kids participated in an afternoon of circus fun at Galloway Park in Brundidge. Lampley shared that during the weekly library times preschool students have had the most consistent turnout.
Tupper Lightfoot has three community programs remaining as a part of summer reading. These programs include Snapology on June 26, 4-H Fun on July 10 and Splash Day on July 18.
Registration is now closed for Snapology and 4-H fun, but the library does not intend to turn anyone away for 4-H Fun.
Splash day will be at 2 p.m. and is open to all children in the community. The event will have various activities such as water slides. Sweet treats and refreshments will be served as well.
Although the program is wrapping up, Lampley would like to encourage readers to keep reading.
“This is our last week of programming, but it’s not too late to read,” she said.
The final day to log reading will be July 13. Children that logged their reading will be invited to the awards day on July 17 where top readers will be announced.
