Junteenth celebration in Brundidge this Saturday

The Annual Juneteenth Celebration in Brundidge is set for 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, June 21 on the grounds of the Historic Bass House in downtown Brundidge.

Isabell Boyd, of the Juneteenth Celebration committee, said the activities will feature music by local singers, groups and musicians. The featured speakers, will include local ministers and community representatives

The annual Juneteenth Celebration is a national holiday that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States.

Boyd said Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021 when then-President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law.
Now, many people have the day off from work on Juneteenth. The holiday is celebrated throughout the country with parades and family and community events.

Boyd said everyone is invited and welcome to participate the Juneteenth Celebration in downtown Brundidge on Saturday, June 21.
