After finishing as runner-up in the state tournament, the Troy 9U Rookie All-Stars are now preparing for the Dixie Youth 9U Rookie World Series Tournament in Texarkana, Ark.
Their state tournament run started with a 3-10 loss to Montgomery American 9U Rookies. The team quickly rebounded with a dominant 20-0 win over Opelika All Stars 9U, followed by a solid 10-5 victory against Municipal 9U. In the championship rematch, Troy faced Montgomery American once again and came up short, 3-15.
With the World Series just four weeks away, the team has turned its full attention to preparation, both mentally and physically.
“To prepare for this World Series Tournament, we are practicing five days a week, with some midday Sunday practices to prepare for the heat that we will be in,” said coach Justin Sanders. “Just, you know, teaching a winning mentality and to love one another, staying positive.”
That mindset has been key for a group that has grown up together on the diamond. These players share a bond that extends beyond the game.
“This group is so special because most of them have been playing with each other since they were six years old,” recalled Sanders.“So the history is deep, being friends on and off the field, being just great teammates all around.”
The team is made up of players Davis Sanders, Grier Jordan, Nix Pugh, Cole Hill, Jack Parmer, Strother Stephens, Logan Stough, Bo Johnson, William Burton, Gavin Sanders, and Jd Spann
They are led by head coach Justin Sanders, and assistant coaches Brent Hill and Zach Spann.
The Troy 9U Rookie All-Stars are ready to take on the national stage, driven by teamwork, dedication, and a deep love of baseball.
