Pike County Kids’ Fishing Day at Clay Hills Farm a success

Pike County Kids’ Fishing Day at Clay Hill Farms on Saturday, was, as always, a good day for fishing.

Pike County Conservation Officer Jerry Jinright expressed appreciation to the John Dorrill Family for its continuing support of the day of free fishing for kids ages 5 to 15 in the Pike County area.

“A lot goes in to hosting a fishing event like this but all involved believe that Kids’ Fishing Day provides an opportunity for youngsters to experience fishing with a dad or another special adult in the lives of these kids,” Jinright said.

Of course, the day of fishing was a new experience for many of the youngsters.  Some had never even put a worm on the hook, nor did they want to put a worm on a hook. However, the smiles were much bigger when the kids caught a fish than the frowns if they didn’t catch a fish for supper.

“Catching a fish is exciting and, hopefully, Pike County Kids Fishing Day will be the beginning of a sport that can be enjoyed a lifetime,” Jinright said.

52 kids caught 105 lbs. and 20 ounces of fish.

The kids in each age group that caught the biggest fish were:

Ages: 5-8

(1) Benjamin Lasster 5 lbs.; (2) Payson Minton, 3 lbs., 11 oz. and (3) Harper Haskins, 3 lbs.

Ages 9-12

(1) Jacob Lauren, 10 lbs., 8 ozs.; (2) Harry Godwin, 8 lbs., 14 ozs. and (3) Blaine Davenport, 8 lbs. and 13 ozs.

Ages 13-15

(1) Colt Jacobs, 2 lbs., 11 ozs. (2) Torrde Jones, 1 lb., 14 ozs. (3) Jermar Lampley, 1 lb., 11 ozs.

The kids’ fishing day is held annual at Clay Hill Farms near Pronto and hosted by the John Dorrill family, Walmart Alabma, Alabama Conservation Enforcement Officers Association and the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries division and Pike County Treasure Forest.
