Norman Douglas Green, 92, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on the evening of Tuesday, June 10, 2025. Born in 1933, Douglas lived a life defined by faith, service, and devotion to family and community. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served with distinction in the 101st Airborne Division as an instructor in the Signal corps. Following his military service, Douglas returned home and dedicated himself to education and agriculture. He was a hardworking farmer and spent many years as a teacher and principal where he influenced generations of students and educators with his leadership and integrity.

Douglas also faithfully served 41 years on the board of trustees for the South Alabama Electric Cooperative, imparting wisdom and a deep commitment to the people it served.

A devoted man of God, Douglas was a longtime leader at Hebron Baptist Church. Whether teaching Sunday School, serving as a deacon, or simply leading by example, his faith was the cornerstone of his life and an inspiration to all who knew him. He experienced great love and also deep loss in his life. He was widowed three times by his beloved wives: Grace Ellen Barr, Hazel Price Williford, and Erlene Ammons Kelley, and preceded in death by his parents, Madie B. and Essie D. Green, brothers, Dwight Green and Donald Green, as well as his cherished daughter, Karen Green Jordan. Despite these losses, he remained a steady source of faith, strength, and love for his family and community.

Douglas is survived by his son, Larry (Jane) Green, grandchildren: Amy (Brad) Forehand, Mandi (Jason) Suggs, Ashley (Kendall) Merritt, Callie (Ben) Reweti, Christie (Chris) Jay, Nicole (Brandon) Barnhill, Holli (PJ) Benton and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who will forever treasure his wisdom, gentle spirit, and unwavering love.

A celebration of Douglas’s life will be held at Zion Chapel High School’s new gymnasium on Friday, June 13, at 11 am with visitation beginning at 10am. Graveside services to immediately follow at Hebron Baptist Church cemetery. The family kindly requests an omission of flowers and that donations be made to the Green Memorial Scholarship Fund care of All In Credit Union, P.O. Drawer 8, Daleville, AL 36322 which honors Mr. Green’s lifelong dedication to education and the future of young people.
