On Friday afternoon, the family of William Johnson Caldwell presented the 1935 Webster’s Dictionary that originally belonged to Tupper Lightfoot for whom the public library is named.

Diann Childers, library director, expressed gratitude to the Caldwell family for its thoughtful decision to put the 1935 Webster’s Dictionary on perpetual loan to the library,

“The aging dictionary holds special significance as it was gifted to Mr. Caldwell by Tupper Lightfoot himself, making it, not only a valuable resource, but, also, a cherished piece of history,” Childers said. “We are honored to display this unique contribution in the library, where it will serve as a lasting tribute to the legacies of both Mr. Caldwell and Mr. Lightfoot.”

Brundidge City Manager Willie Wright also expressed appreciation to the Caldwell family for making “Mister Tupper’s” dictionary available to the city library to be viewed and appreciated for years to come.

The library staff also expressed appreciation for the donation that honors the memory of Tupper Lightfoot and his giving spirit.
