The Annual Sickle Cell Walk is set for 8 a.m. until noon Saturday, June 21, at Troy Parks & Recreation Outdoor Track, 601 Enzor Road.

The Sickle Cell Walk is held annually to bring greater awareness to Sickle Cell and to support the research at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The Sickle Cell Walk is sponsored by Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Iota Eta Sigma Alumnae Chapter, Troy.

Darleen Hill, walk chair, invites everyone to join the Troy Chapter in bringing greater awareness to Sickle Cell and support fundraising efforts.

“Walkers are encouraged to walk seven laps in honor of the seven founders of our chapter and all donations, large and small, will be greatly appreciated,” Hill said. “This will be our chapter’s second Sickle Cell Awareness Walk and we are looking forward to being able to lend support to St. Jude’s program that helps children with sickle cell disease as they go through their MRI scans without anesthesia.”

The Iota Eta Sigma Chapter is involved in fund raisers in support of other local events throughout the year, but not limited to the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross, Breast Cancer Awareness, Big Book Bags and Juneteenth.”
