New Life Christian Academy, a local private Christian school in Troy, is preparing to open its doors to a brand-new facility this August for the upcoming school year, serving students in grades K-12, which will also function as a church.
“We are right in the middle of finishing up,” said Head of School LaTasha Vaughn. “We had a couple of contract delays, but we are still on schedule and excited to welcome students into the new space.”
This new building is funded through a combination of church and school finances. It will include dedicated areas for traditional classrooms and expanded STEM spaces. The school intends to introduce more hands-on activities, such as those in science and technology, as well as enhanced lab resources across all levels.
“We want to take care of the whole child academically and spiritually,” Vaughn explained. “This new space will allow us to do that in a much better way than we have been able to in the past.”
Looking ahead, the school is also in discussions to secure the necessary funding for future expansion to athletic facilities.
“We are hoping to start on projects such as a track, gym and football facilities continuing into the coming years, in hopes of receiving the available funds so that not just our school but also the Troy community could utilize these facilities,” said Vaughn. “When our school would do track, we would have problems with scheduling meets with Troy University, being booked out by other schools in the city.”
For New Life Christian Academy, the expansion is about more than space; it is about building a legacy. The school’s mission has deep roots, which trace back to parents Willie and Annie Blackmon, who have served the Troy community for more than 30 years.
“I come from a family of educators, and I have always believed in providing a safe, faith-filled environment for learning,” Vaughn explained. “Our mission is to give kids a place where they can be exactly who God called them to be.”
New Life Christian Academy is entering a new chapter—one built on faith, community and a commitment to helping students grow in every way.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating this project will be held on August 1 at 441 Enzor Road in Troy at 10 a.m.
