The Alabama Department of Revenue (ALDOR) is warning residents of a new scam involving text messages looking to enforce penalties for “unpaid traffic tickets” from a fraudulent Alabama Department of Vehicles.

According to a release from the ALDOR, fraudulent text messages have been sent to unsuspecting recipients that may ask users to click a link that begins with the “https://mydmv.alabama” domain. Though, there may be several different variations of the link depending on the text message received. ALDOR says it is important that recipients do not click on this link.

The ALDOR does not enforce traffic laws or penalize people for unpaid tickets and the “Alabama Department of Vehicles” does not exist. Additionally, ALDOR does not contact taxpayers through text messages. Anyone receiving any sort of message that claims to come from ALDOR is fraudulent and no one should click links included.

The following is an example of what the text may look like.
