The lazy, hazy days of summer mean higher traffic along U.S. 231, which is beneficial to the Pioneer Museum of Alabama.
To take advantage of the higher traffic count, the museum’s board of directors has extended the museum’s summer hours from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. effective Wednesday June 4 though Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
Barbara Tatom, museum director, said the Pioneer Museum of Alabama museum provides an ideal stopover site for travelers.
“The Pioneer Museum has convenient parking, restroom facilities are readily available, and the gift shop is just inside with cold colas, snack items and a large variety of purchase items for kids and for the moms and dads.
Museum visitors can get a glimpse of the pioneer museum that features more than 18,000 artifacts and stretch their legs on the grounds.
“Kids are drawn to the steam engine locomotive and their parents take photos of the kids and the train that Hank Williams’ dad engineered” Tatom said. “Everyone who stops is impressed with the museum and has positive things to say about Alabama and our people.”
