- Troy volleyball legend Janie Wiggins will be inducted into the AHSVCA Hall of Fame.
This week, former Troy University volleyball star Janie Wiggins was announced as a member of the Alabama High School Volleyball Coaches Association (AHSVCA) Hall of Fame Class of 2025.
Wiggins is currently the head coach of the LBW Community College volleyball squad but has a long, storied career as both a volleyball player and coach at the high school and collegiate level. Wiggins grew up in Kinston and was an All-Star volleyball player at Kinston High School and a part of four Final Four teams. She went on to play at Troy, setting a number of school records.
In 1993, Wiggins broke the single-season record for blocks with 42 and her career blocks still ranks fourth in school history. Her 70 block assists in 1993 also set a school record.
After her stellar college career with the Trojans, Wiggins helped launch the volleyball program at Enterprise State Community College, then known as Enterprise State Junior College. She was the school’s first volleyball coach in 1995 until the program was disbanded in 1997. ESCC has since relaunched their volleyball program, however. Wiggins also served as the head softball coach at ESCC during her tenure there.
Wiggins then jumped to the high school realm as an assistant coach at her alma mater under legendary head coach Amaliea Rhoades. She took over for Rhoades as the head coach at Kinston in 2000, leading the program to 12 straight area championships. Her teams also made 10 Elite 8 appearances, four Final Fours and won the 2006 Class 1A State Championship. Wiggins’ 364 wins at Kinston ranks second only to Rhoades. Wiggins also led the Kinston softball team to a State Championship in 2007, as well.
In 2012, Wiggins took over the volleyball program at Enterprise High School and led EHS to eight Area Championships and six Elite 8 appearances. Her teams won 30 or more games in all but one of her seasons at the helm at Enterprise.
Between her two head coaching stints at Kinston and Enterprise, Wiggins amassed a staggering 638-270 career record with 20 area championships and a state championship. During that time, Wiggins also founded The Links Volleyball Academy in Enterprise to train young volleyball players in the Wiregrass area.
After retiring at EHS in 2020, Wiggins returned to the college game as the first head coach at LBW in school history, where she still serves. Wiggins helped launch the volleyball programs at both ESCC and LBW.
Wiggins’ list of career accolades is as long as her wins. She’s been named the Dothan Eagle High School Volleyball Coach of the Year six times, won the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Bubba Scott Award and was inducted into the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame in 2022. She can now add the AHSVCA Hall of Fame to her list of honors.
The Class of 2025 also includes former UMS-Wright coach Barbara Henry, Jacksonville coach David Clark, Benjamin Russell coach Pam Robinson and Brooks coach Ryan Roberson. The Class of 2025 will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at 2025 AHSVCA Summer Conference in Montgomery on July 24.
