Troy City Schools named a Science of Reading Gold Certified District

On Monday, Troy City Schools was one of 30 school systems across the state to be recognized as a Science of Reading Gold Certified District.
Only Troy City Schools, Crenshaw County Schools, Elba City Schools, Enterprise City Schools, Geneva County Schools, Opp City Schools and Troy City Schools were among the districts int the Wiregrass to receive the distinction.
The school districts to receive this recognition, achieved 90 percent or more completion rates for their teachers and leaders across the Alabama Reading Initiative’s LETRS courses. The Alabama LETRS Science of Reading Professional Learning Course was designed to provide sustained and job-embedded science of reading professional development to support evidence-based reading instruction, improve grade-level reading proficiency and close achievement gaps across the state.
“These districts exemplify a commitment of sustainability to the science of reading an d effective instruction,” the Alabama Reading Initiative’s statement about the recognition read.
This week, Troy City Schools also announced that Charles Henderson High School’s graduating class of 2025 also accepted a total of $4,008,250 this school year.
