The Birmingham Stallions finished off the regular season with one of their most dominant wins of the season, 46-9 over the Memphis Showboats. Former Troy Trojan Brandon Silvers also earned his first start of the season.
Silvers led the St. Louis Battlehawks to a 13-8 win over the DC Defenders to close the regular season. Silvers completed 6-of-8 passes for 105 yards in the win. It was Silvers’ first start of the season after earning his first playing time last week, in another Battlehawks win.
Birmingham’s season-ending win on the road is the best the reigning UFL Champions have looked all year. After being named UFL Player of the Week last week, J’Mar Smith was once again efficient for the Stallions. He completed 13-of-17 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown. Backup quarterback Andrew Peasley also completed 9-of-14 passes for 93 yards.
Ricky Person Jr. rushed for 42 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries, while Amari Rodgers caught four passes for 36 yards and a score. Jace Sternberger also caught one pass for 37 yards.
The Stallion defense was led by Kyahva Tezino with eight tackles, while Mario Goodrich added five tackles, one tackle-for-loss and two pass breakups. Tae Crowder also intercepted two passes and returned both for touchdowns. Myjai Saners tallied four tackles-for-loss and two sacks.
“Really proud of our team’s performance today,” said Birmingham Head Coach Skip Holtz. “Coming into this game, our message was that competitors compete. Everybody was telling me that there is no reason to play this game, that it doesn’t matter, it doesn’t change the conference standings, doesn’t mess with home field advantage, just things that should make our football team unmotivated.
“We talked about the team that is going to have a chance in the end is going to be the team that improves the most over the course of the season. The team that is going to play with the most passion, and play the most focused is going to be the one standing at the end. We have talked about the standard we have around here and that we were going to have to strive all season to reach it.”
Birmingham will host the Michigan Panthers in the USFL Conference Championship on June 8 at 2 p.m. in a game that will air nationally on ABC. Birmingham and Michigan played twice in the regular season with the Stallions winning both matchups.
