Troy Police Patrol Sergeant Latifa Anderson brings her passion to the Troy community every day, having served as an officer for nearly a decade.
Anderson is a Spanish Fort native and graduate of Spanish Fort High School. She attended Faulkner Community College before earning her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Troy University.
“I decided early on in my adulthood that I wanted to pursue a career in law enforcement,” Anderson said. “I enjoy being able to help people, I enjoy communicating with people. Even on someone’s darkest days, knowing there is a chance that I can help bring light to their day makes my job that more enjoyable.”
Anderson said that coming to work everyday is an adventure.
“I love not having to deal with the same thing every day, there’s always something new,” she said. “I’m never coming into work and I’m like, ‘I have to deal with the same thing again.’ It’s always something different.”
Anderson said that she has plenty of personal goals as an officer that even stretches outside of the police department.
“I do want to become a part-time (Criminal Justice) professor and put that under my belt,” Anderson said. “One day maybe even become Chief, who knows, we’ll see. I want to be able to take steps in the department. I want to be a lieutenant one day and then a captain and just come up within the department.”
Anderson also offered some advice for young people interested in entering into law enforcement.
“My biggest piece of advice to anyone pursuing a career in law enforcement is to always protect your mental health,” she continued. “Make time for yourself and family every chance you get.”
