This week, Troy University baseball signee Jabe Boroff was named the Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA) Community College Athlete of the Year.
Boroff is a star player at Enterprise State Community College (ESCC) and signed with Troy to continue his college career next season. The ASWA Community College Athlete of the Year is an annual award that goes to the top community college athlete in Alabama, regardless of sport. The award is voted on by ASWA members.
Boroff, a Pike Road native, batted .452 in 2025 with a .765 slugging percentage, .555 on-base percentage, 20 home runs, 10 doubles, 62 RBIs and 68 runs. His 20 homers is tied for fifth in all of junior college (JUCO) baseball. Defensively, Boroff also held a .917 fielding percentage with 112 putouts, nine assists and three double plays.
For his ESCC career, Boroff held a .49 batting average with 22 doubles, one triple, 28 homers, 111 RBIs and 99 runs. He also held a career .914 fielding percentage with 182 putouts, nine assists and three double plays.
Boroff earned All-Conference honors along with being named the ACCC Player of the Year. He now adds the ASWA Community College Athlete of the Year to his accolades.
“I’m really excited,” Boroff said of the honor. “I have absolutely loved it here. The coaches gave me a really good opportunity. I tore my UCL at the end of junior year in high school, and a lot of schools passed up on me and didn’t really give me a shot.
“But Coach (Sam) Frichter and Coach (Cam) Williams, they gave me a really good opportunity. The camaraderie there is nothing like I’ve ever been around. I met some of my best friends there. I mean, it honestly was probably the best two years of my life going there.”
While Boroff signed with Troy to continue his college career, the MLB Draft could also be in his future. Boroff is currently taking part in the Kansas City Royals Pre-Daft Camp with other team camps also a possibility prior to the draft. Boroff will be presented with the Community College Athlete of the Year Award at the annual ASWA Banquet on June 8 at Jacksonville State University.
