This week, Troy University softball landed a commitment from Michigan State transfer pitcher Ella Grace Cunningham.
Cunningham is a native of Cleveland, Tenn., where she was a High School All-American for Silverdale Baptist School. She was named the MaxPreps Tennessee Player of the Year as a senior, also earning MaxPreps and NFCA High School All-American honors.
She struck out 368 batters as a senior, breaking her school record. She also helped lead her school to two State Championships and was a two-way star, boasting a .585 batting average with 17 home runs and 55 RBIs as a senior. She also held an eye-popping 0.58 ERA in 192 and 1/3 innings pitched.
As a freshman at Michigan State this past season, Cunningham pitched in five games and struck out one batter. Cunningham will come to Troy with three years of eligibility remaining.
Cunningham is the second player Troy has landed from the transfer portal since the end of the season after Pike County native Amity White also announced her transfer from South Alabama. Troy has also lost a number of players from the transfer portal, so far. Brantley native Kayden Dunn is transferring to South Alabama, Reaghan Oney is transferring to Kentucky and pitcher Alyssa Faircloth is transferring to Mississippi State.
