The Troy Trojans football team earned a commitment from another junior college (JUCO) transfer this week in safety Doug Nelson.

Nelson is a 6-foot-3-inch, 220-pound safety that will be transferring from Copiah-Lincoln Community College (CoLin) in Mississippi. Nelson was a star receiver and defensive back at Helzehurst High School in Mississippi. As a receiver, he caught 97 passes for 1,754 yards and 25 touchdowns as a senior. He also tallied 79 tackles, six interceptions and two more touchdowns on defense as a senior. Nelson earned 3A-Region 6 Player of the Year, All-State and Mississippi North/South All-Star honors.

He started his college career at the University of Central Arkansas as a receiver. After redshirting as a freshman in 2023, Nelson transferred to Co-Lin and moved to safety. He tallied 45 tackles, nine tackles-for-loss, three pass breakups and an interception during the 2024 season.

Nelson is the second JUCO commitment Troy has earned this week after Central Georgia Tech defensive end Jordan Farrell announced he would be committing to Troy this past weekend.
