The Troy Trojans 2025 baseball season came to an unsatisfactory end on Monday when the NCAA Regional field was announced, leaving Troy out completely.
The Trojans were listed as one of the “First Four” teams out of NCAA Regionals by the NCAA Selection Committee. Troy’s frustrating finish comes despite spending the majority of the season in the Top 20 of all major NCAA College Baseball Rankings. Until the final weekend of the regular season, Troy was also the only team to have won all weekend and conference series. The Trojans then lost their final series of the season to Southern Miss.
Despite a historic season for Troy, the Trojans final month of 2025 will likely end up being what did them in. In the month of May, Troy went 5-6 during the regular season, including a four-game losing streak and a three-game sweep at the hands of Southern Miss. Troy’s losing streak continued with a loss to Old Dominion in the first round of the Sun Belt Tournament, which didn’t do the Trojans any favors either.
Troy managed to come back with two straight wins in the Sun Belt Tournament over Texas State and Old Dominion before being eliminated by Southern Miss in a tough 2-1 battle. Troy Coach Skylar Meade said that Troy deserved to be in an NCAA Regional.
“If we’re not an NCAA Tournament team then no one is an NCAA Tournament team,” Meade said after the loss to Southern Miss. “I don’t think it’s close. We’ve done this without all of our bullets, we’ve been missing our arms for five weeks and we still go out there with no excuses.
“We were the last team in the country to lose a series and if you look at the losses at the end, it’s to the hottest team in the country and they were great games. I don’t know how it’s possible (to not be an NCAA Tournament team) with 39 wins and challenge the SEC on the road and winning on the road in the SEC and beating Coastal and all of those things.”
Following the SBC Tournament, Troy pitcher Grayson Stewart was named to the Sun Belt All-Tournament Team for his performance. The Dothan native pitched seven innings in the win over ODU in the SBC Tournament, striking out seven batters and giving up nine hits and two earned runs.
