Former Trojan Brandon Silvers leads St. Louis to win; Stallions set sights on Playoffs

The Birmingham Stallions are setting their sights on the UFL Playoffs at home after another win this weekend, while former Troy Trojan Brandon Silvers led the St. Louis Battlehawks to a win, as well.
While the Battlehawks had already secured a playoff spot, Silvers – who was recently signed by St. Louis – was given the start in the second half of the May 23 game against the San Antonio Brahmas. Silvers entered the game with St. Louis hanging on to a slim 21-13 lead.
The Battlehawks proceeded to score 18 unanswered points to win 39-13. Silvers completed 7-of-10 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown in the win.
Silvers, a Gulf Shores native, was an All-Sun Belt quarterback at Troy. He also set the NCAA record for highest completion percentage by a freshman quarterback during his Trojan career. He threw for more than 10,000 yards and 69 touchdowns during his college career.
Meanwhile, the Stallions also picked up a 26-22 win over the Michigan Panthers. Birmingham also will host the USFL Conference Championship when playoffs being next week. The Panthers led Birmingham 22-20 with under seven minutes remaining before J’Mar Smith once again led Birmingham to a win.
Smith marched the Stallions on an 11-play, 72-yard drive that ate up more than five minutes of game time. Smith capped off the drive with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Deon Cain to put Birmingham up 26-22 for good.
Smith completed 22-of-31 passes for 306 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 31 yards on seven carries. Larry Rountree III scored two rushing touchdowns on just four rushing attempts. Cade Johnson caught three passes for 82 yards and Jalen Camp caught two passes for 57 yards. Cain added four catches for 55 yards and two scores.
Kyahva Tezino led the Birmingham defense with seven tackles, two tackles-for-loss and a sack, while former Alabama star Shyheim Carter added six tackles and a pass breakup. Steven Gilmore also tallied six tackles.
Birmingham closes out the regular season on June 1 at the Memphis Showboats at 2 p.m.
