On Wednesday, May 21, Goshen High School held a signing ceremony for four athletes, who will continue their athletic careers at the next level.

Goshen senior quarterback Jayden McNabb signed to play college football at Ventura College in California. McNabb’s decision to accept a scholarship at Ventura was connected to family.

“I have family that lives around there and it will give me a chance to play with my brother,” McNabb said. “We never got to play in high school. So, getting to play with him in college means a lot.”

McNabb’s brother, Demarion Mallory, played high school football at Greenville. McNabb has earned All-Messenger honors in back-to-back seasons in 2023 and 2024 and was The Messenger’s Most Valuable Player this past season. He compiled 752 yards and eight touchdowns passing along with 1,668 yards and 24 touchdowns rushing. He’ll play running back at the college level.

“I just want to go and show out and see if I can pick up a Division I offer and go to a four-year school,” McNabb said.

Signing his college letter-of-intent meant a lot to the senior.

Goshen track athlete Jerbauri Williams will compete at Talladega College.

“Since I was little I’ve always wanted to make it to the collegiate level and always told my mom I would make it one day and here we are,” McNabb said with a smile.

“I really liked the community and it’s an HBCU and I like the history behind it,” Williams said of signing with Talladega.

Williams earned the silver in the 110-meter hurdles at sectionals this season and also finished ninth overall at the state tournament in the hurdles.

“I’m trying to set some more (personal records) and make it to nationals,” Williams said of his goals in college. “I’m really focusing on that.”

Goshen basketball player Sam Adams will play prep basketball at Newrock Prep Academy.

Williams said at first he wasn’t getting interest from colleges but when he did, it meant the world to sign with a school.

“At first I didn’t think I would get a chance to go anywhere but I was able to get an offer to give myself a chance to keep competing at the next level,” Williams said. “That means a lot to me.”

Goshen basketball players Sam Adams and Ahmad Rogers both signed with Newrock Prep Academy in Georgia, where they will continue to play basketball with hopes of moving on to college after that.

“I took a visit in April and I saw how big and beautiful the campus was and they said I would be in the weight room every single day and the gym every single day and that’s all I needed to know,” Adams said of his decision. “I just want to go to work. I’m just humble and grateful to have an opportunity to keep playing basketball.”

Rogers said getting a chance to play with his teammate also played a big part in his decision to go to Newrock.

“When I visited, the place was very beautiful and peaceful,” he said. “It was a great place to grind and put in work and to be able to go with my teammate meant a lot and played a part in my decision.”

Adams said that he and Rogers, who both plan to play college basketball after prep school, have been friends since elementary school.

“We’ve been together since elementary school,” he continued. “We’ve been rocking with each other, kind of like brothers, and our parents get along really well. So, it’s a blessing to be there with my teammate.”
