Troy lands transfer cornerback Amare Garrett

On Monday, former Toledo cornerback Amare Garrett announced his decision to transfer to Troy University to continue his football career.

Garrett is a 5-foot-11-inch, 186-pound redshirt freshman from St. Petersburg, Fla. Garrett was a star player at Lakewood High School in Florida, earning 31 tackles with two interceptions in 2022. He also tallied 34 tackles and eight pass breakups as a junior. 

Garrett redshirted his freshman year in 2024 and will come to Troy with four years of eligibility. Garrett marks the sixth commitment that Troy has earned from the transfer portal since the spring. Those commitments now include Garrett, former Georgia receiver RaRa Thomas, former Georgia Tech running back Trey Cooley, former Mississippi State offensive lineman Malik Ellis, former Bethune-Cookman running back Dennis Palmer Jr. and former Grambling tight end Marquis Harris.
