Recently, Charles Henderson High School senior Sarah Taylor was selected to receive a $2,500 STAR Scholarship from the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) Sisterhood.
Taylor was recommended by the P.E.O. Chapter AF of Troy. Taylor is the CHHS Valedictorian and serves as President of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theater. She was also a member of the CHHS soccer, cheerleading and flag football teams. She also was the region winner of the Bryant-Jordan Academic Achieve Scholarship and is a finalist for the Tip Colley Award.
The PEO has been celebrating women helping women for more than 155 years. Since its inception in 1869, the nonprofit organization has helped more than 125,000 women pursue educational goals by providing approximately $432 million in grants, scholarships, awards and loans.
The PEO STAR Scholarship was established in 2009 to provide scholarships for “exceptional women” in their final year of high school to attend an accredited postsecondary educational institution to the U.S. or Canada in the next academic year. The STAR Scholarship is for women who “exhibit excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, community service and potential for future success.”
Taylor plans to attend the University of Alabama, and plans to one day become an orthopedic surgeon.
