Alabama gas prices back on the rise

Heading into the Memorial Day weekend, the average gas price nationwide climbed to $3.17 per gallon.
However, that’s only an increase of 2-cents per gallon from four weeks ago. Last year, at the same time, the national average for gas was $3.59 per gallon. This week’s average is 42-cents lower than last year’s average.
In Alabama, the average price for regular gas remained well below the national average at $2.75 per gallon, but still increased 2-cents from last Monday’s $2.73 average for the state. A year ago, Alabama’s average price per gallon was $3.20. That amounts to a 45-cent per gallon decline over the May 19, 2024, price.
On Monday, GasBuddy.com reported prices in Troy ranging from a low of $2.65 to a high of $2.85. Prices in surrounding towns were: Ozark, $2.64 to $2.0; Luverne had no reported prices, Union Springs reported at $2.79; Dothan ranged from $2.54 to $2.67; Montgomery ranged from $2.49 to $2.57.
Last Monday, GasBuddy.com reported prices in Troy ranging from a low of $2.65 to a high of $2.85. Prices in surrounding towns were: Ozark, $2.62 to $2.69; Luverne reported at $2.88, Union Springs reported at $2.79; Dothan ranged from $2.57 to $2.73; Montgomery ranged from $2.52 to $2.59.
Nationally, Alabama had one of the lowest averages in the nation with $2.75. Prices in contiguous states were: Mississippi, $2.66; Tennessee, $2.72; Georgia, $2.91 and Florida, $3.03.
The highest recorded average price per gallon for regular in Alabama was $4.63 on June 14, 2022.
