For the first time since the move to Division I, the Troy Trojans men’s golf team has qualified for the NCAA Championship.

Troy finished fourth overall at the NCAA Urbana Regional in Illinois this week. The Trojans finished the first round in fourth place but fell to fifth place on day two. The top five teams at regionals advance to the NCAA Championship. Troy moved back into fourth place in the final round on Wednesday.

“I’m just so proud of this team,” Sun Belt Coach of the Year Clay Bounds said. “They deserve this. They’ve worked so hard for this, and I knew with this group of guys we could get this done. For them to go out and play like they did today, it was truly remarkable.”

Troy was led by Jake Springer and Brantley Scott, who both finished inside the top 10 and shot 6-under par during regionals.

Troy Golf has a long history of tradition, including three Division II National Championships and three national runner-up finishes between 1976-1992. Troy’s Paul Perini also won an individual Division II National Championship in 1980.

Troy’s NCAA Championship bid is not only the Trojans’ first as a part of Division I but it’s also the first time a Sun Belt Conference team has made the national tournament since 2022. Troy is one of just 30 teams to qualify nationally for the NCAA Tournament, which will play May 22-238 in Carlsbad, Calif.
