Local farmers market the place to be

The Pike County Farmers Market is traditionally the place to be for farm-fresh fruits and vegetables that rival that grandma grew in her garden and served on her kitchen table.

And, the best place to get down-home produce is at the local farmers’ market.

The Pike County Farmers Market is located on the green space just across from Troy Bank and Trust in Troy and shoppers can “trust” local farmers to put their best fruits and vegetables for sale at the local Farmers Market.

Kim Sanders, market manager, said it’s up to Mother Nature which fruits and vegetables are available at the farmers’ market place, but, for sure, they are home grown and fresh picked by local farmers.

Honey, farm-fresh eggs and fresh blueberries are usually quick picks, but Yellow Vidora Onions and both pickling and slicing cucumbers go fast. And those are just a sampling of locally grown produce that will be at the Pike County Farmers Market on Saturday.

The pickings will be many and better than good.

When shopping for locally-grown fruits and vegetables, remember that dollars spent on locally-grown produce most often stay at home. And, don’t forget … if you ate today, thank a farmer!
