RSVP reorganizing, seeking active volunteers

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program is planning a comeback and is looking for good volunteers to help restore the program.

RSVP had a strong presence in Pike County before the COVID pandemic, but after the pandemic, the program has largely been dormant. RSVP held an advisory board meeting on Monday and volunteers are in the process of jump-starting the program in Pike County.

RSVP is part of AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism. The Pike County RSVP is operated through Troy University School of Social Work and Human Services in the College of Health Sciences.

RSVP is currently recruiting organizations and individuals in an effort to coordinate opportunities for volunteers age 55 and over to engage in the community. Anyone interested in volunteer opportunities or anyone in an organization that would benefit from volunteers, please contact the RSVP office at 334-808-6513 to speak to RSVP Director Dr. James Meadows or one of the volunteer coordinators, Donna Scott-Rushing and Cam’Ron Gin-Mckinney or email pikersvp@troy.edu.
