- Members of the Troy Police Department, Pike County Sheriff’s Office, Troy University Police and Alabama State Troopers attended a proclamation signing declaring May 11-17 as National Police Week. Troy Mayor Jason Reeves signed the proclamation.
Troy Mayor Jason Reeves proclaimed May 11-17 as National Police Week in the City of Troy.
The proclamation stated: “It is important that all citizens know and understand the duties, responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices of the Troy Police Department, and that officers of the Troy Police Department recognize their duty to serve the people by safeguarding life and property, by protecting them against violence and disorder; and by protecting the innocent against deception and the weak against oppression.”
Reeves said it was important for people to know that law enforcement officers not only police the city, they protect the citizens that live here.
“A lot of folks don’t understand that y’all get up every day 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and work hard to try to keep everybody in this community safe,” Reeves said. “And when somebody decides that they don’t want to do right. You work non-stop to bring them justice every day, all day. Y’all deal with it.
“And I want you to know that I appreciate you. I’m proud of you. I stand behind you. And you will always have whatever you need to do your job. And that’s every day. Whether we’re getting any attention or not. Positive, negative, or otherwise. So, I’m grateful for all of you. Whatever you need, you got it.”
As part of the Police Week celebration, the City of Troy will hold a Police Memorial to honor fallen officers on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Troy Municipal Complex on Elm Street.
