Pike Lib falls to Vincent in game one of state title series

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots fell to 0-1 in the Class 2A State Baseball Championship series on Monday, losing 7-0 to the Vincent Yellowjackets in game one in Oxford.
Vincent jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning and scored six runs between the third and fifth inning to take control for good. Pike struggled at the plate, collecting six hits as a team with no Patriot earning multiple hits. Pruitt Vaughan, Jackson Bowen, Luke Barron, Garrett Whitaker, Kade Brookins and Jacob Bowen each earned one hit.
Brookins started on the mound and pitched four and 2/3 innings, striking out two batters and giving up six hits and six earned runs. Cole Garrott pitched one and 2/3 innings, striking out a batter and giving up two hits and no runs. Dawson Bradford struck out one batter and gave up no hits or runs in 2/3 of an inning.
For Vincent, Aiden Poe went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Calvin Johnson went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Landon Archer also drove in two runs and Grayson Gulde scored two runs. Archer was the winning pitcher, striking out six batters and giving up five hits and no runs in six innings on the mound.
Pike Lib and Vincent will play in game two at Jacksonville State University’s Jim Case Stadium at 10 a.m. on May 13. If a game three is necessary it will be played later in the day at Jim Case Stadium.
