Pike County crash claims life of Montgomery woman

A multi-vehicle crash that occurred in Pike County on May 11 claimed the life of Montgomery resident Michelle Denise Johnson, according to a release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

The crash occurred at 11:26 a.m. on May 11, when the 2011 Honda Accord that Johnson was driving struck the trailer of a 2022 Volvo tractor trailer, driven by Darrius Denzel Johnson, 30, of Southaven, Miss. After the initial collision with the Volvo, the Honda was then struck by a 2018 Toyota Tacoma driven by Barbara Truitt Grubbs, 57, of Meridianville. The crash occurred on U.S. 231, near the 62-mile marker, approximately two miles south of Brundidge, in Pike County. 

Johnson, 53, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Grubbs was injured in the crash and transported to Southeast Health in Dothan for medical treatment. ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division is investigating the crash.
