- Jaine Treadwell | The Messenger Kids’ Fishing Day will be held on Father’s Day Weekend at Clay Hill Farms in Pronto.
The fishing worms are crawling from their beds and the crickets are chirping on “rocky” top all together they are announcing that “it’s go fishing time!
For Pike County Conservation Officer Jerry Jinright, when he sees and hears the signs of summer, his thoughts are that it’s time to go fishing. And, where better to go catfishing than in a well-stocked pond and with a bucket of worms or crickets and a cane pole.
Jinright laughs at the thought of a cane pole but, sure a cane pole can pull in a big cat.
And, that’s the opportunity kids will have on Saturday, June 14 at the fish pond at Clay Hill Farms in Pronto.
“it’s that time of the year and the Dorrills’ pond is ‘brimming’ with some of the best catching, best eating catfish that can be caught,” Jinright said. “The John Dorrills’ pond has good size catfish and every hook that hits the water attracts fish.”
The annual Kids Fishing Day is set for June 14 and kids ages 5 to 15 are invited to “go fishing.” There is no absolute guarantee that every worm or cricket will land a big fish, but there is a chance that every bait is an attraction for a “cat.”
Each kid must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult.
“Kid’s Fishing Day is a short time away so, mark the calendar for a day of fishing and fun,” Jinright said. ‘There will be prizes, a hotdog lunch and catfish or a stringer of cats to take on for supper.”
Mark the date, Saturday, June 14, Clay Hill Farms at Pronto. The Wal-Mart Alabama, the Conservation Enforcement Officers Association, the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division and Pike County TREASURE Forest friends will see you there.
