- The new historical marker in Brundidge.
An Alabama Historical Commission Plaque has been placed on the red-brick building that is located on the corner of the crossroads in downtown Brundidge.
Brundidge City Manager Willie Wright said the red-brick building was originally Brundidge City Hall where all city business was conducted in the downstairs area. The downstairs area also housed the Brundidge Police Department and the jail cells were the back wall of the brick building.
A variety of activities was housed in the building’s upstairs area, including, at different times, Boy Scout meetings, the community library and a teen canteen.
The newly installed historical marker plays tribute to the 1940s building that was a Works Progress Administration project and what the historical structure has meant and continues to mean to the citizens of Brundidge.
Wright said the building is now known as the We Piddle Around Theater, where local lore is shared in a variety of ways including folklife plays, storytelling concerts, musical events and special events that include professional plays, artistic presentations and historically-based programs.
The historical building continues to play a role in the development of the downtown area and provides arts activities and events for all ages throughout the year.
