No. 14 Troy falls to No. 18 Alabama

Just a day after receiving the highest ranking in school history, the No. 14 ranked Troy Trojans (34-15) lost a Top 25 battle with the No. 18 Alabama Crimson Tide (37-12) by a score of 10-2 at home on Tuesday. 

The loss to Alabama is Troy’s second loss to the Tide this season. The Crimson Tide opened the game with a solo home run from Justin Lebron in the first inning and never trailed in the contest. Alabama jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the second inning and led 8-0 before Troy finally got on the scoreboard.

For Troy, Sean Darnell went 2-for-4 with a double and one run, while Steven Meier went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Blake Cavill also scored one run. Jacob Roettgen (1-1) took the loss on the mound, giving up four hits and four earned runs in one inning pitched. Adam Falinski pitched five innings and fanned five batters, while giving up six hits and four earned runs. Blake Cavill tallied 11 putouts, two double plays and no fielding errors. Peyton Watts also earned two putouts, five assists and two double plays with no errors. 

For Alabama, Lebron went 2-for-2 with a homer, a double, one RBI and two runs, while Kade Snell went 4-for-5 with a home run, five RBIs and two runs. Garrett Staton also drove in three runs. Aeden Finateri (3-0) got the win on the mound, striking out two and giving up four hits and one earned run in two and 2/3 innings pitched. Will Hodo earned 10 putouts and one assist with no errors. 

Troy will look to get back on track on Wednesday on the road against Samford at 6 p.m.
