Pike Lib tops Zion Chapel in Region Finals

The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots (20-15) defeated the Zion Chapel Lady Rebels (17-15) in the Class 2A South Regional Finals on Tuesday by a score of 6-2.
Pike jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed after that. Mary Holland Stephens led the Lady Pats at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs, while Camryn Brown hit a two-run home run. Hailey Brown drove in one run and scored one run, while Julianne Meyer and Alissa Barron drove in one run each. Allie Booth also scored a run. Barron pitched all seven innings and struck out two batters, while giving up four hits and one earned run.
For Zion Chapel, Alyssa Forehand went 2-for-3 with a run, while Shea Wambles drove in one run and Emily Rhodes scored one run. Sydney Boothe pitched three innings and fanned five batters, while giving up five hits and three earned runs. Riley Bannin also struck out three batters and gave up two hits and one earned run in three innings in the circle.
Zion Chapel will now move on to the finals of the elimination bracket to be played this afternoon at 5 p.m. Pike Lib will advance to the Class 2A State Softball Tournament for the first time in school history.
